North Carolina Marathon

The Second Annual N.C. Marathon will be held on May 2, 2009. This race is sponsored by UnitedHealthcare of the Carolinas and Foster Friends of North Carolina (FFNC), a nonprofit charitable organization that provides a brighter future for children experiencing foster care. The money raised by this event will help support the programs and services that FFNC provides for these children.

This Marathon was first held in 2008 and it was a huge success. Over 1,000 runners participated in the Marathon, Half Marathon and 5K Run. Runners came from across the United States and as far away as Tokyo, Japan and the United Kingdom. One racer's comment was "It was overall a great race that I want to run again."

Because of the success last year, FFNC has decided to make this an annual event. This year it will be on May 2, 2009 and they are offering a Marathon, Half Marathon and a 2 Mile Walk/Run, specially designed to get everyone up and moving! The speaker at this year's Pre-race Pasta Luncheon will be Greensboro's "World Class Endurance Athlete" - Charlie Engle.

2009 Race Announcment
A press conference was held on November 18, 2008 at the Proximity Hotel to announce the 2009 NC Marathon. Melissa Fourrier, Executive Director of Foster Friends of North Carolina, and Race Director, described the success of last year's race and highlighted some of the 2009 race information, including the Title Sponsor, UnitedHealthcare of the Carolinas, and the partnership with the Proximity Hotel, the marathon's sponsoring hotel.
